How AccentLoop works
A small, independent speaking-practice tool: find out how your English sounds, fix the sounds that trip you up, and practise talking out loud every day.
The accent test
You read a short passage for about 30 seconds. An AI speech model (Google Gemini, via OpenRouter) listens to the audio and estimates which of 23 English accents you sound closest to, with a confidence for the top matches and the features it noticed (for example rhotic “r”, vowel in “bath”, flapped “t”).
How we tested it. Before launch we compared six speech models on 10 recordings in different English accents. The model we use placed 9 of 10 in the right region. Those test recordings were synthetic voices, not real speakers, so real-world accuracy, especially for non-native accents, may be lower. We are re-testing with real volunteer recordings and will publish the results here.
The result is an estimate for entertainment and practice. It says which accent you sound closest to, not where you are from, and it is not a professional assessment.
Pronunciation checker
You read a target sentence. The model compares what it hears with the text, marks words that slipped and explains the sound to fix. In our test of 5 sentences with 13 deliberate mispronunciations it found all 13, with 2 false alarms. That test also used synthetic voices.
Speaking level and interview practice
The level test gives an estimated CEFR band (A1–C2) from three short speaking tasks. It is unofficial and not linked to IELTS, TOEFL, Cambridge or any exam board. Interview feedback uses the STAR structure (situation, task, action, result) and is practice, not a hiring prediction.
AI conversation
Your browser turns your speech into text, a fast language model replies in a role-play (café, hotel, small talk, job interview…) and your browser reads the reply aloud. At the end you get a summary of useful phrases and mistakes. It is for practice only. If someone mentions self-harm or crisis, the partner stops the role-play and points to a crisis line.
What we will not do
- No stored recordings and no voiceprints (see Voice data).
- No account needed for the free tests.
- No claims to certify, diagnose or “remove” an accent. Every accent is valid; we help you be understood.
