Which accent is this?

01 — The short answer
In short

This accent quiz plays 10 clips of voices reading the same English passage, each in a different accent, and you pick the accent from four options. You see your score and the answer for every clip. Then you can read the passage yourself and let AI guess your accent. Free, no sign-up, works on phones.

How to play the accent quiz

  1. Press play on the first clip and listen to the whole sentence.
  2. Pick the accent you think it is from the four options.
  3. See right away whether you were right and which clues gave it away.
  4. After 10 clips, see your score and share it.
  5. Take the voice test to see which accent the AI hears in your own English.

Now let the AI guess your accent

Read the same passage for 30 seconds — free, no sign-up, audio not stored.

Read this aloud in your normal voice (about 30 seconds):

Last summer, my brother and I took the early train to the coast. We bought three thick sandwiches, a bottle of water and a map, and we walked along the cliffs until the weather turned. By the time the rain arrived, we were laughing in a tiny cafe, drying our socks by the heater.

Frequently asked questions

Is there an accent quiz with audio?

Yes. Unlike most accent quizzes, which only ask multiple-choice questions, this one plays real voice clips reading the same passage, so you guess purely by ear.

Are the voices real people?

No. They are synthetic voices, each reading our test passage in a different accent. That keeps the comparison fair (same words, same sound quality) and protects real people’s voices.

How many accents are in the quiz?

14 clips: American, British, Irish, Australian, South African and Indian English, and English with a Mandarin, Japanese, Korean, French, German, Russian, Brazilian Portuguese or Latin American Spanish influence. Each round picks 10.

Can it guess my accent too?

Yes. After the quiz, read the passage for 30 seconds and the AI shows which of 23 accents you sound closest to. Free, no sign-up, audio not stored.

Do you keep my recording?

No. The audio is analysed and then discarded — it is never stored. We keep the text result for 30 days so your share link works, and you can delete it any time from your account page. We never create a voiceprint.

How accurate is it?

Before launch we tested it on 10 synthetic voices in different native English accents and it named the right region 9 times out of 10; on the 14 sample voices on this site its first guess matched 13 of 14. Real voices, especially mixed and second-language accents, are harder, so treat the result as “closest to”, not a label. It is for entertainment and practice, not a professional assessment.

Is having an accent bad?

No. Everyone has an accent. The test only tells you which accents you sound closest to and which sounds create that impression, so you can decide what — if anything — you want to change.
